Exercise: Two images on the same page.

This task was more of a hands on exercise to make a few layouts with two images.

Layout 1 - Margam tree
Layout 1 was my first attempt. I had taken the landscape shot of the tree but also a portrait close up of some of the detail on the tree so it was easy to be able to keep each photograph side by side to the top of the page. Or it would work with them at the bottom of the page too.

Layout 2 - Dyffryn House,  inside and out
Layout 2 was a shot of Dyffryn House which I cropped into a panoramic photograph and then I wanted to include a shot showing one of the beautiful fireplaces inside too. I kept the photograph of the fireplace as small as I could while trying to keep the panoramic photo across the top as big as possible. I guess I could also have made the panoramic a full half page photo at the top and then kept the fireplace photo small again underneath or even slightly overlapping.

Layout 3 - Dyffryn Gardens
Layout 3 saw me experiment with keeping two pictures of Dyffryn Gardens the same size on opposite diagonal sides of the page. But as the second photograph was more of a close up shot of a garden feature, I felt it didn't quite work as well as it could, even though this layout would work fine for photos of different subjects.
I decided that I wanted to crop out some of the close up photo to focus more on the subject and take the extra garden bit in the background to crop it better.

layout 3 - Dyffryn Gardens - attempt 2
So my second attempt at layout 3 includes the same layout as before but using a slightly larger wide angle shot but then a smaller, cropped version of the second image in attempt 1, to focus more on the garden feature.

As I am into gig photography, I thought I would include some for the purpose of this exercise too.

layout 4 - The Blackout @ Merthr Tydfil Leisure Centre AKL
Layout 4 shows two photos of the farewell gig of the welsh band 'The Blackout'. Here I wanted a bigger shot of one of the lead vocalists and then a smaller wide angle of the band on stage. This is an acceptable layout for two images on the same page but a magazine specific to this genre of music wouldn't have such a polished layout of a gig. You would more than likely find a lot more photos on the page and they would be more 'messy' and overlapped. More like layout 4 attempt 2.
